We don’t want you to feel the need to defend your queerness in therapy. We want to sit down with you and not only help you feel seen, but help you see yourself for who you are.
There is a lot to be celebrated in our diversity and self-awareness. Having a space that is welcoming and validating for all orientations, genders (or lack there of), and identities is important. We understand the intersectionality that exists within our marginalized populations. Our clients benefit from a therapist that “gets” what it’s like to be queer in a heteronormative world.
How can LGBTQ2+ therapy help me?
Things have changed a lot for the queer community over the years, but we often face the same stressors that we always have. We’re here to help navigate:
- Questioning identity
- “Coming out” – often a lifelong process
- Homophobia/transphobia, or the invalidating erasing of identity
- Accessing medical care (hormone replacement therapy, top surgery, etc)
- Discrimination from loved ones, coworkers, & the public
- Relationships, dating, & non-traditional relationship structures (non-monogamy, polyamory, etc)
- Kink & fetish
- Community and loneliness
- Starting a family
- Depression, anxiety, trauma, feeling overwhelmed, and other mental health issues that stem from this unique marginalization
- The neurodiversity & queer venn diagram
“if I can’t understand social roles, how am I to understand gender roles?” – a client
If you’re feeling stuck, therapy can help you find clarity in who you are and what you want out of life and your relationships. This community tends to lean on resiliency to cope, and Sunward Journeys hopes to help you nurture this. Connect with a competent and experienced counsellor, who understands the nuances of exploration through a queer, non-judgmental lens.
