Hey there, UBC students! We’ve got some fantastic news for you: you might be eligible for FREE THERAPY through UBC AMS StudentCare Benefits! 🎉 That’s right, AMS StudentCare offers up to $1250 per year for therapy sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with absolutely no deductible. That’s a pretty generous benefit compared to many other plans, and it’s a great way to support your mental health.
Who Can Benefit?
If you’re a UBC student enrolled in AMS StudentCare Benefits (which most full-time and part-time students are, unless you’ve opted out), you’re automatically covered. This includes international students, those auditing courses, and co-op students as well. To confirm your coverage, take a look at the official site: StudentCare Coverage Info.
Is There Any Catch?
There are a few things to keep in mind:
- Payment Upfront: You’ll need to pay for your sessions upfront and then get reimbursed. You can’t bill therapy sessions directly to AMS StudentCare.
- Blackout Dates: Depending on when you start, there might be a wait for reimbursement. For example, if you start in September, you might not see your reimbursement until mid-to-late October. More info on this here: Blackout Period Details.
- Opt-Outs: If you opted out of StudentCare, you might be covered under a different plan through your employer or family member. Many insurance plans do cover RCC services, so check the details of your plan!
